On Friday, the Lebanese rushed to exchange offices across the country to buy the "rare" American dollar in the country in light of the growing economic crisis facing Lebanon.
Many regions have seen queues who want to change their local currency against the US dollar, which is being used widely in the country's daily dealings.
In light of this rush for the American dollar, the Lebanese Central Bank requested foreign exchange offices to set a ceiling for what they sell of the dollar.

One of the owners of exchange offices in the Lebanese capital, Beirut, said that they sell only $ 200 per person, adding that if there is a need for more American currency to pay university fees, domestic workers ’salaries, or expenses for children studying abroad, then documents must be submitted proving that to obtain quantities Greater than the dollar.

This rush to buy the dollar comes a few days after the Lebanese Central Bank announced that it will pump quantities of the American currency into the markets with the aim of strengthening the local currency, which lost 70 percent of its value since last October.

Local media reported that the black market for the dollar has been active, with some buying the dollar at official prices and then selling it for a higher price.
