After two months of emptiness in March and April, due to the containment, the figures for the automotive sector started to rise again in June. Sales of hybrid vehicles registered a record increase over the first ten days of the month. Now, vehicles in the "electrified" category represent one in five cars sold.

Government aid for the purchase of a clean vehicle, in particular the extended conversion bonus and ecological bonuses, made the French want to return to the dealerships. After the catastrophic figures of March (-72%) and April (-89%), and those rather encouraging of May (-50% with deconfinement), car sales are starting up again very strong in this month of June. While sales of electric vehicles continue to increase significantly, the figures are even more impressive for hybrids, according to data collected exclusively by Europe 1.

1,000 hybrid cars sold every day

Over the first ten days of June, registrations of hybrid cars increased by 89% compared to the same period a year ago. Or more than 1,000 sales per day, a figure never seen before. Hybrids now represent 15% of the market, and if we add the 5% of electric cars, that makes one vehicle in five classified in the category of "electrified", according to figures noted by AAA Data, data specialist automotive industry.

"The market share of electric and hybrid vehicles in 2020 is significantly higher than what has never been observed in previous years", reports to Europe 1 Marie-Laure Nivot, market intelligence manager at AAA Data. "These growth are all the more remarkable when one comes out of a health crisis," she adds.

Prices greatly lowered with aid

Manufacturers have reason to be satisfied, their open days of last weekend broke all records, especially at Toyota, leader in the hybrid market. At Renault, the new Zoé is a success. Its price can drop to 20,000 euros if you combine the 7,000 euros bonus and 5,000 euros conversion bonus. Same observation at Hyundai, where the Kona, a compact 100% electric SUV is in great demand. For the South Korean manufacturer, hybrid and electric cumulation reaches new heights, since it represents 40% of their sales.
