The used car market has experienced strong demand since the end of containment. - FREDERIC SCHEIBER / 20 MINUTES

Since the implementation of progressive deconfinement on May 11, players in the used car market have experienced strong demand. Figures have not yet been officially released, but the trend appears to be favorable for used vehicles, whether at dealerships or between individuals, reports BFMTV.

From the end of the containment, “we recorded a strong increase in traffic on our sites. In the last week of May, the market returned to normal, ”says Vincent Hancart, managing director of the AutoScout24 France platform. He predicts that June could be better in terms of sales, compared to last year. "We had a reboot beyond our expectations," adds David Rairolle, director of the activity of VPN Autos, in the columns of Les Echos , quoted by the continuous news channel.

Eliminate the “zero kilometer opportunities”

This success can be explained in particular by the conversion premium, but not only. At the end of 2019, the dealers registered many vehicles before a change in standards. So they now have to sell off these "zero kilometer opportunities" and consumers can get good deals. In May, sales of these vehicles increased by 14%.

At the same time, some favor old vehicle occasions. Sales of cars over 16 have jumped 16% in recent times. "For customers who have a certain fear of the economic crisis, fear of losing their job, it is an option to change their car but pay attention to their budget", explains Vincent Hancart.
