Despite the fact that tourism activity has not yet resumed, that there are mobility restrictions within the national territory and that hotels have been able to open for just a few weeks, the prices of these accommodations (hotels, hostels and pensions) increased by 4 , 8% in the month of May, according to data from the National Statistics Institute (INE) collected by Europa Press.

In May Spain was still under alarm and hotels and pensions could only start to open in some communities. Those who did had capacity restrictions. Last April, prices had increased by 10.6%.

What did fall is the price of organized trips, 7.8% in May. Packages to domestic destinations decreased their price by 13.7%, compared to the slight growth of 0.8% registered the previous month, while the cost of international packages decreased by 5.6%.

The tourism sector predicted a possible price adjustment to attract tourists after these months of confinement with the claim of promotions.

The airline sector had also considered lowering fares to attract demand. Those of domestic flights fell 0.6% in May (in April they grew 2.4%), while the prices of international flights fell 5.8% in May after the 4.2% increase registered in April.

The CPI for May, following the guidelines established by Eurostat, modifies part of its technical treatments to estimate prices to adapt to the needs of the new situation.
