More than 500 temporary workers will not have their contract renewed by PSA when activity resumes at the Hordain site in the North. The group preferred to replace them with workers from a Polish factory. If this mobility measure is legal (and provisional according to management), it nonetheless raises the indignation of employees.

Employees from a Polish factory are preparing to replace temporary workers at the PSA site in Hordain, in the North. This mobility measure is legal and will allow the group to avoid paying just over 500 temporary workers, who were still employed before the stop imposed by the sanitary measures against the Covid-19. However, this initiative does not fail to generate controversy on the spot, particularly in the face of the looming economic crisis.

PSA ensures giving priority to group employees

The first 150 employees must arrive on Monday, they will be accommodated in hotels or lodges in the region and will be paid double their Polish salary, or about 1,300 euros per month. The management essentially evokes workforce adjustments and a priority given to group employees to justify the maneuver. "The problem is not that the Poles come to work here, it is PSA's desire to create nomads in the automotive industry. Temporary workers are the first victims and find themselves unemployed today", gets annoyed with Europe 1 Franck Théry, CGT delegate on the site.

"Throw away like tissues"

"It is the principle of the foreign worker, which is a real foreign preference in terms of employment", adds on our antenna Nicolas Bay, MEP of the National Rally. "We must repeal the directive on the posting of workers", enjoins this close to Marine Le Pen. "We must ensure that the French have priority on the job market in France, especially when we are experiencing an economic crisis and very high unemployment."

In all, 531 temporary workers are excluded from the resumption of activity while the manufacturer must ensure the production of 30,000 vehicles and utilities. "These are young people entering the job market, fathers, mothers, children of employees who are thrown away like tissues", laments an employee. Management also ensures that this replacement will only be temporary. Polish workers are destined to return to their factory, which will soon start production of a new vehicle.
