In the midst of the Covid crisis, Amazon has decided to reinforce its commitment to Spain and has announced the opening of its second logistics center in Madrid in autumn. It will be located in Alcalá de Henares and will create more than 500 permanent jobs in three years.

The e-commerce giant expands its logistics network in Spain "to effectively meet customer demand, expand its product selection and support SMEs that use its logistics service for storage," they said in a statement.

Amazon will use this new center for the storage and preparation of orders , providing support to the operations of the multinational in Spain and Europe.

The center (it has another one in San Fernando de Henares, which is the first one that opened in Spain) will be located in the El Encín industrial estate, in the Henares Corridor, just 30 kilometers from the capital and 27 kilometers from Madrid airport -Barajas.

Months ago, it announced the opening of the new state-of-the-art robotic center in the Seville town of Dos Hermanas.

"This center is a clear example of our commitment to Spain, creating more than 500 permanent jobs in the next three years, which will help us reach more clients throughout the country. We continue to invest heavily in Spain, employing thousands of people with talent, "said Amazon vice president of customer fulfillment in Europe, Stefano Perego.

The multinational has invested more than 2,900 million euros since its arrival in Spain in 2011 . "We are also committed to investing in renewable energy as a critical step to combat our carbon footprint globally," he recalled.

Amazon has already started the hiring process for some positions in this logistics center, from operations managers, engineers, HR and IT teams, while the hiring of the employees who will prepare the orders will begin this summer.

The multinational created in 2019 more than 2,000 jobs, increasing its workforce to 7,000 permanent employees in Spain.

In the last seven years, the multinational has opened logistics centers in El Prat (Barcelona), Martorelles (Barcelona), Castellbisbal (Barcelona), Illescas (Toledo), and recently announced Dos Hermanas (Seville), in addition to Alcalá de Henares (Madrid).
