The era of teleworking is here to stay, at least in large companies. The forced confinement of millions of Spanish homes since last March has proven the ability of many workers to operate remotely without loss of productivity, which has accelerated the implementation of this method of work in companies where it had already been testing for years.

This is the case of the Dutch bank ING, which today plans to communicate to its employees in Spain a remote work plan so that each of them can choose individually whether to go to the office or operate from home sine die.

The plan extends to a workforce of 1,400 workers and is accompanied by measures to guarantee the disconnection of its employees, one of the most widespread complaints at the general level during the last two months in Spain. In other words: differentiate teleworking from 'all-working' that many have suffered during confinement.

These measures include, for example, the creation of a meeting schedule limited between 10:00 and 16:00, the duration limit of these meetings at 45 minutes and the restriction on sending emails or making calls with character work beyond 1 9:00 am . The fringes for starting work are also kept flexible and will run from 07:00 to 10:00 in the morning.

ING thus becomes the first major company to accelerate the implementation of telework after the coronavirus. Sources close to the group explain that the entity had already carried out pilot tests months before to test this model, but the coronavirus crisis has served to accelerate its implementation.

Employees can choose to attend the office every day, partially attend a few days a week, or keep their activity at home. The plan does not contemplate in this sense any compensation for employees who decide not to attend in person as the Government wants to establish by Law, beyond the benefits that it can bring at the level of conciliation for the employee.
