a result of examining 41 types of krill oil products on the market, the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (KFDA) revealed that 12 products were judged as nonconforming and that all of them should be collected and disposed of.

In five products, ethoxyquin, an antioxidant used in aquatic feed, was detected above the standard.

The Ministry of Food and Drug Affairs decided to issue administrative orders, such as corrective orders or business suspensions, to the companies for investigation.

However, they said that taking these products does not immediately affect their health.

The most residual amount of ethoxyquin among the caught products is that, when an adult weighing 60kg takes one tablet per day, the amount of detection was not high enough to be about 0.8% of the allowable amount.


The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (KFDA) cautioned consumers that there are many false hype that lack medical evidence such as cleansing blood vessels, even though krill oil is a general food that is not certified as a health functional food.
