Airlines, buses, Renfe and, in general, the transport companies, will have to keep the data of the travelers in case, when the mobility between provinces is generalized, Covid cases are detected, in order to locate those affected.

This is reflected in the Royal Decree approved by the Government on Tuesday to set the rules that will regulate the so-called "new normal", once the de-escalation process in our country ends.

According to the document, the airlines, the shipping companies, also Renfe and the bus companies must keep the data of the passengers they transport for a minimum of four weeks. Thus, it will be possible to carry out "traceability" and contact them in the event that a case of coronavirus is detected among passengers on any trip, as confirmed today in a press conference after the Council of Ministers, the Minister of Health, Salvador Illa.

Transportation between provinces

The measure affects all transports that travel through more than one province, those with a maritime and air connection, and those with a seat or assigned seat. In other words, it will not affect intercity buses.

When the health crisis began, it was established that the different means of transport began to force travelers to provide contact details when buying a ticket.

The validity of the measure, like that of the rest of the Royal Decree, is indefinite, until the sanitary circumstances stop forcing it to be maintained.

Airlines and transport companies may make this information about users "available when required by public health authorities, in order to trace contacts if necessary." "This obligation also extends to air transport operators," adds the text.

Compensating Aena

With regard to airports, Aena will make available to Foreign Health "the human, health and support resources necessary to guarantee sanitary control of the entry of passengers on international flights."

This will be done through a collaboration agreement with Foreign Health that will allow Aena to be compensated for the disbursement it makes to carry out this work, as confirmed by Illa.

The minister explained that the Government has empowered Aena to take measures in the area of recruitment and reinforcement of personnel to carry out these measures, in addition to establishing mechanisms to offset this disbursement.

The Royal Decree maintains the obligation to wear a mask to all travelers of all means of transport, including public and private vehicles in vehicles with up to nine seats.
