China News Agency, Xishuangbanna, June 8th (Beard Hao Yao Wei) After 4 years of hard work by the builders, the key control project of the Sino-Lao Railway, Yuxi to Mohan, Shanggang No. 1 Tunnel was successfully opened on the 8th. The construction of the tunnel minimizes the disturbing of local virgin forests and wildlife.

The No. 1 Shanggang Tunnel is located in Mengla County, Xishuangbanna Prefecture, Yunnan Province, with a total length of 5.8 kilometers. It passes through tropical rainforest nature reserves and environmentally sensitive areas. The forest coverage rate is 87%. There are many types of rare animals and plants in the surrounding area. .

"We canceled the originally designed inclined shaft in the protected area and reduced the forest land occupation by more than 40 acres. The tunnel is excavated by two palm faces at the entrance and exit. The excavation of a single palm face is close to 3 kilometers, which brings many difficulties to the construction. The required construction period is more than twice that of similar tunnels, but it protects the local natural environment." said Huang Ming, the manager of the Yumo Railway Project Department of China Railway 25th Bureau Group.

During construction, each participating unit strictly controls construction wastewater discharge and garbage disposal, and promptly reclaims and afforests the temporarily-used waste dump along the line to reduce the impact on the environment.

It is understood that 98.7% of the roadbed construction of the Yuxi-Mohan section of the China-Laos Railway is completed, 87.3% of the bridges are completed, and 93% of the tunnels are completed. A total of 68 tunnels have been run through 93 tunnels, and the construction of paving, post-station and station buildings has been fully started.

The China-Laos Railway has a total length of more than 1,000 kilometers and is expected to open by the end of 2021. After it is opened to traffic, Kunming, China to Vientiane, Laos is expected to arrive at night. (Finish)
