According to a household survey by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, which shows trends in personal consumption, the amount of money consumed by households other than one-person living in April was 11.1% lower than in the same month of the previous year.

The extent of the decrease was the largest since 2001, when statistics could be compared, and was a record drop due to the emergence of an emergency declaration following the spread of new coronavirus infection. Also, the amount of money spent for consumption has decreased for the seventh consecutive month since October last year.
