Shops open on Sunday December 11, 2016 in Nantes - J. Urbach / 20 Minutes

After two months of closure, they need to sell their stocks and find their customers. Affected by the health crisis as everywhere in France, the Loire-Atlantique businesses have just received authorization to open their doors more widely in the coming months. The prefect has published a decree granting them a derogation: it will be possible to shop there on Sundays June 21 and 28, July 5, August 30 and September 6, 2020. Large stores are not affected.

As with previous Sunday openings (usually during Christmas), stores will be allowed to raise their curtain between 12 p.m. and 7 p.m. Employees will work on a voluntary basis and will be paid double for volunteers. A measure that seems welcome, after the announcement on Tuesday of the postponement of the start of the summer sales to July 15.

The unions consulted

According to several unions, this decision was taken on the prefect's initiative "in the light of the loss of turnover suffered by many businesses", but he consulted the social partners before formalizing it.

While the question of opening Sunday shops has been very sensitive for several years in the Nantes region, the majority of unions had asked to limit the number of Sunday openings to five by the end of September, which has therefore been heard. CGT and FO are always totally opposed to it.
