“To facilitate financial restructuring, Intelsat and some of its subsidiaries have filed voluntary petitions ... with the US Bankruptcy Court in the Eastern District of Virginia,” the company said.
It is noted that the restructuring of Intelsat is motivated by a desire to obtain permission from the US Federal Communications Commission to use C-band frequencies to deploy 5G network infrastructure in the country.
Intelsat orbital grouping totals more than 50 spacecraft.
Earlier, Speaker of the House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi at the Munich Security Conference said that 5G technologies introduced by Chinese company Huawei pose a threat to the United States because of its cheapness.
