The weekly jobless claims report released by the US Department of Labor Thursday showed that new jobless claims increased to 33.5 million in seven weeks since March 21.

The number of Americans filing for unemployment benefits increased last week, indicating a broadening of layoffs from customer-oriented industries to other sectors of the economy as the new Corona outbreak crisis continues (Coved-19).

The adjusted number of new applications in light of the seasonal factors for government unemployment benefit reached 3.169 million last week.

This week's data represents the fifth consecutive decline in jobless claims since it reached a record level of 6.867 million in the week ended March 28.

Economists polled by Reuters had expected three million orders in the past week, compared to the previously announced figure of 3,839 million in the week ended April 25.

The data support economists' views on the continued recovery of the economy, which is reeling from public isolation measures nationwide to slow the spread of the Corona virus.

The economy contracted in the first quarter at the fastest pace since the Great Depression from 2007 to 2009.
