• Descaled. Hoteliers: "We cannot open in a rush. It is better to wait"

The fourth vice-president of the Government and minister for the Ecological Transition, Teresa Ribera, has responded today to the hoteliers, who yesterday criticized the government's de-escalation plan for the reopening of the sector, which "there is no obligation to open" , in the case that there are bars or restaurants that believe that it is not profitable and prefer to wait instead of following the guidelines set by the Government's plan.

"We all must understand that this is a gradual system, there is no obligation to open. If there are those who consider that it is better to wait, then they can wait, " he told Radio Nacional.

The hospitality industry yesterday criticized the plan set by the Executive, considering that it does not contemplate some of the requests most demanded by the sector (such as the flexibility of the ERTE) and also because, they believe, it bases the openings on gauging measures, such as the fact of reducing that of the terraces to 30%. This, they criticize, is not profitable for any business.

"No type of obligation is imposed on anyone, who does not feel comfortable and it seems that the accounts do not come out , obviously it is understood that it remains closed," he said.

According to the Government plan, bars and restaurants could open from day 4 but only for takeaway service (no consumption in the premises), and from day 11 those with a terrace but with a capacity of 30 may do so. % maximum. In phase 2 of the de-escalation (May 25), the restaurants will be able to open the interior of their premises but with distance measures and only in table service (no bar) and with a 50% capacity.

The sector believes that opening in these conditions is not profitable, since, for example, in the case of terraces, most have an average of 10 tables, which would mean opening with only three of them, and without being able to provide service in the interior of the premises.
