  The report shows that as of March 2020, the number of Chinese netizens was 904 million, an increase of 75.08 million from the end of 2018, and the Internet penetration rate reached 64.5%; the size of mobile phone netizens reached 897 million, and the proportion of netizens using mobile phones to access the Internet reached 99.3%.

  In terms of age, as of March 2020, the proportion of netizens aged 20 to 29 and 30 to 39 was 21.5% and 20.8%, respectively, higher than other age groups; the proportion of netizens aged 40 to 49 was 17.6%; 50-year-old and Internet users accounted for 16.9%, and the Internet penetrated into middle-aged and elderly people.

  In terms of academic qualifications, as of March 2020, the proportion of netizens with junior high school, high school / secondary school / technical school qualifications was 41.1% and 22.2%, respectively, and the proportion of netizens with college education or above was 19.5%.

  In terms of income, the netizens with a monthly income of 2001 to 5000 yuan (RMB, the same below) accounted for 33.4% of the total, and the netizens with a monthly income of more than 5000 yuan accounted for 27.6%. The proportion of netizens below 1,000 yuan accounted for 20.8%.

  The report also shows that the number of non-Internet users in China during the same period was 496 million. The lack of skills, educational restrictions and age factors are the main reasons why non-netizens do not go online.

  As of March 2020, the per capita online time of Chinese netizens was 30.8 hours per week, an increase of 3.2 hours from the end of 2018. Affected by the new coronary pneumonia epidemic in early 2020, netizens have significantly increased the length of time online.
