The four new iPhones expected in the second half of the year are still promised by Apple by the end of 2020. Because of the global pandemic of Covid-19, Apple has however had to change its usual program, says Wall Street Journal , relayed this Monday by Les Echos . The company was notably forced to delay the manufacturing of its new terminals by one month, including its first model of 5G phone.

The production of the devices is based massively on sites located in China, a country which has been strongly affected by the coronavirus. The factory release of the first iPhone traditionally takes place in July, with a peak in activity in August. This calendar allows an official presentation of the terminals each year in mid-September. The pace cannot therefore be the same in 2020.

A “temporarily limited” offer

This singular situation had another consequence on the future iPhone offer. The quantities of products available should be lower than those put on sale in previous years. A drop of 20% in volumes intended for marketing is thus mentioned.

Apple had nevertheless anticipated these effects of the health crisis on its business and had previously communicated on the subject. In February, the high-tech giant had explained that it would not achieve the financial results expected for the first quarter. A global offer of “temporarily limited” iPhones had been mentioned, as well as conditions that “temporarily affect” the group's international results.
