Calculated at comparable prices, a year-on-year decrease of 1.3% is better than the national situation and better than the provincial secondary and tertiary industries.
In early March of this year, the Sichuan Provincial Party Committee Rural Work Leading Group assigned the province the task of expanding the grain planting area, requiring this year ’s grain crop area to expand by 1 million mu and the total output to increase by 500 million kg.

"According to the dispatch of our department, the province has implemented an area of 373,000 acres of grain." Liao Wei, chief economist of the Sichuan Agricultural and Rural Department, said that the spring spring farming production in Sichuan has generally started well. The total planting area of small spring crops is 46.259 million mu, an increase 900,000 mu, an increase of 2.0% year-on-year, of which Xiaochun ’s grain area increased by 64,000 mu compared with last year.
In terms of Dachun, Sichuan launched the Dachun grain breeding program from south to north in late February. As of April 16, Sichuan had planted 26.643 million mu of Dachun grain, accounting for 33.9% of the estimated total, which was 0.4 percentage points faster than the same period last year.
In terms of cash crops, the output of Sichuan vegetables and edible fungi in the first quarter was 9.36 million tons, an increase of 4.1% year-on-year; the output of melons and fruits was 93,000 tons, an increase of 14.4%. The province's spring tea picking has entered the peak period, the pickable area of the whole Sichuan is 4.95 million mu, an increase of 150,000 mu year-on-year.
In terms of animal husbandry, Sichuan's hog production capacity is recovering well, and the situation is better than the whole country. At the end of the first quarter, the number of live hogs in Sichuan was 29.869 million, up 4.0% from the end of last year and 0.5 percentage points higher than the national level; among them, the number of breeding sows was 3.083 million, up 12.5% from the end of last year and 2.7 higher than the national level percentage point. In the first quarter, 11.159 million pigs were slaughtered, and the pork market price has dropped from a high level for 8 consecutive weeks.
Sichuan will continue to fully implement the "pig nine" and "new eight" and other policy measures, accelerate the progress of the construction of new-scale farms, promote the "company + farmers" and other models, help small and medium-sized farmers to develop standardized breeding, and ensure that the completion of live pigs this year 60 million head missions.
As a replacement pig industry, Sichuan's poultry farming industry has flourished since last year. In the first quarter, 172.796 million poultry were slaughtered in Sichuan, an increase of 2.6% year-on-year, and the output of poultry meat increased by 2.6%.
Affected by the new crown pneumonia epidemic, the consumption of beef and mutton decreased, and the slaughter of cattle and sheep fell slightly. In the first quarter, Sichuan cattle slaughtered 793,000, down 0.7% year-on-year; sheep slaughtered 4.067 million, down 2.4% year-on-year. The output of beef and mutton decreased by 0.8% and 2.8% year-on-year.
Liao Wei said that in the next step, Sichuan will focus on the target tasks of grain, hog production and farmers' income increase for the whole year, on the basis of continuing to do a good job in epidemic prevention and control, and promote the implementation of relevant policies and measures.
