The Ministry of Economy withdrew 87,601 cars, trucks, and defective bicycles from the state’s markets during the first quarter of this year, in cooperation with car agencies.

The summons report issued by the ministry yesterday said that the summons operations were divided into 16 summons "for safety", which included 87 thousand and 451 cars, bicycles and trucks, and one recall process "for service" included 150 cars.

The report showed that the recall operations included models from 10 brands: "Mercedes", "Nissan", "Toyota", "Lexus", "Mazda", "Honda", "Porsche", and "Volvo" , "Isuzu," "Yamaha."

The origin of the towed vehicle also varied between the United States, Germany, Japan, Thailand, Canada, Sweden and China.

The report showed that the recall that took place in March 2020 and included models of the Lexus and Toyota models for the years 2013-2019 with a total of 64,796, was the largest of its kind during the first quarter, followed by a recall of the "pickup" of the "Nissan" brand The model years between 2009 and 2012 totaled 9,039 vehicles, while the recall of the models "Accord", "City", "Civic", "Legend" and "Odyssey" from the "Honda" brand came in third place with a total of 5,521 vehicles.

The Director of Competition and Consumer Protection at the Ministry of Economy, Dr. Hashem Al-Nuaimi, said that the Ministry notifies sales centers and commodity agents of the necessity to withdraw defective goods from the markets immediately, while obliging those entities to advertise in local newspapers in the Arabic and English languages ​​at least twice to withdraw the commodity, and to clarify the defect that exists In which.

He added that the summons are aimed at protecting the health and safety of consumers in the country, reducing fraud and misleading operations, and ensuring consumer rights to protect against products that potentially expose him to any danger.

Al-Nuaimi stressed the Ministry’s follow-up of commodity recovery operations on a daily basis via the Internet and the media. He also asked consumers to report any harmful products, whether through calling the parent company that product, or direct damage to the consumer, stressing that consumer awareness plays a major role in recovery operations.
