Sony's ventilator production cooperation policy Accelerate movements to support different industries 5:13 April 16

With the spread of new coronavirus infections, companies in different industries are accelerating to support the production of medical devices. Sony intends to cooperate with manufacturers in the manufacture of ventilators.

Sony is currently studying the production and assembly of parts for artificial respirators, which are feared to be in short supply, by utilizing factories in Aichi Prefecture, which normally produce digital cameras, etc.

In cooperation with medical device manufacturers, we would like to start production after three months and supply more than 1000 units.

Nihon Kohden, which deals with respirators, is strengthening its production system at its plant in Tomioka City, Gunma Prefecture, which produces about 30 units a month, and aims to supply 1,000 units in the next 6 months.

In order to increase production, we are considering the support of parts procurement from domestic automobile manufacturers.

This time, we will increase the production of equipment for patients with mild illness, and by increasing the total supply, we will be able to direct those for severely ill patients to new coronavirus patients.

Successive entry and increased production including companies of different industries

In addition, companies in different industries are starting to increase production of artificial respirators, antiseptic solutions, masks, etc.

Toyota Motor Co., Ltd. will support the increase in production by providing its own production know-how to medical device manufacturers that manufacture respirators and other equipment.
In addition to the new production of "face shield" that protects the faces of doctors and nurses from splashes, we will also provide a vehicle for transporting mildly ill patients.

Kao, a major household goods company, will increase the production of antiseptic solutions at domestic factories. Next month, we plan to increase the volume to 2 million liters by 20 times the previous month.

Shiseido, a major cosmetics company, has begun producing antiseptic solutions at its cosmetics factory on the 17th of this month, and will supply more than 200,000 bottles and more than 100,000 liters a month from next month.

In addition, mask maker Koken is increasing the production of high-performance masks called N95 for medical institutions to 1.4 million pieces per month, which is double the number of last year. We also plan to make capital investments to increase mask production.
