The Commercial Control and Consumer Protection Sector, which is affiliated with the Dubai Economic Department, imposed financial penalties on nine pharmacies and two companies working in the field of supplying pharmaceutical supplies, for deliberately exaggerating the prices of selling masks to exaggerated levels, and taking advantage of the high demand for sterilization and prevention requirements, in the wake of the Corona virus outbreak Worldwide.

The Dubai Economic Department said in a statement yesterday that the commercial control and consumer protection sector received complaints from consumers about raising prices, after which the specialized team would study the relevant details through inspection campaigns on the nine pharmacies located in the regions: Al Wasl, Naif and Ibn Battuta Mall. Mall of the Emirates, Khawaneej, Mirdif and Jumeirah.

And it turned out that those pharmacies committed abuses, and as a result, they deserve to be charged with violations, as a punishment for violating the consumer protection laws in force in the Emirate of Dubai. As for the suppliers, Dubai Economy explained that their violation was monitored after they tracked their operations with pharmacies, and they supplied face masks at very high prices. The department confirmed that in the event of a repeat violation, it would resort to doubling the value of the financial fine, as the penalties amounted to the closure of the commercial establishment. The Dubai Economy appealed to pharmacies and medical supplies suppliers to demonstrate their social responsibility and work to reduce the prices of prevention and sterilization products under the current situation. It called on consumers to raise their complaints and direct their inquiries related to the rise in commodity prices, including sterilization and prevention products, on the portal (Price.ded.ae), which was launched recently, with the aim of expediting the handling of consumer demands.
