The General Authority of Civil Aviation has reported that the number of companies operating flights designated for air freight, registered with the Authority, reaches 54.

The authority clarified, for "Emirates Today", that the fleet of national carriers only for cargo planes reaches 17 wide-body aircraft, including 11 aircraft belonging to "Emirates Air Cargo", the cargo arm of "Emirates Airlines", and six aircraft for "Etihad Cargo", The cargo and logistics arm of Etihad Airways.

The authority added that the Minister of Economy and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the General Authority of Civil Aviation, Engineer Sultan bin Saeed Al-Mansoori, held a remote meeting with representatives of national carriers, cargo operators, to discuss the current situation, in light of the spread of the Corona virus, during which the review of flight programs Existing freight, to provide full support for this type of operation, and it has been decided to form a work team that includes all parties to follow up on this issue, in addition to the authority's support for plans to operate freight trips to new destinations in the future as needed.

She pointed out that the national carriers continue their active and pivotal role in transporting basic commodities, such as food and medical supplies, and in facilitating the movement of trade and air freight.

The «Emirates Air Freight» is the largest international freight carrier in the world, providing services in 155 destinations across the six continents of the world, as it transported during the fiscal year 2018-2019 about 2.7 million tons of cargo.

The carrier uses the energy provided by the fleet's currently numbering 269 modern aircraft, including 11 "Boeing 777F" aircraft, and the total capacity of each plane is between 100 and 120 tons per payload.

One of the Emirates Air Cargo planes landed in Brazil's Sao Paulo airport, carrying 500,000 Covid-19 virus testing kits.

The carrier will also operate, in April, nine charter flights to Budapest to transport supplies, such as face masks and medical equipment, to Hungary.
