Central Bank Governor Tareq Amer said that the outcome of withdrawing individuals from banks during the last 3 weeks amounted to 30 billion pounds.


In a telephone interview with "On My Responsibility" program, broadcast on "Echo Al Balad" channel, he stressed that the withdrawal of these sums was done without real need, and he appealed to those dealing with banks to think about the needs of others.


The Central Bank of Egypt has decided today to take measures to regulate the procedures for withdrawing and depositing cash for a temporary period within the framework of the state agencies' keenness on the health and safety of citizens and reducing the risks of the emerging Corona virus and the decisions it has taken which have witnessed a highly appreciated response.


The Central stressed that this comes with the aim of ensuring protection and avoiding crowding and gatherings, especially in the periods of salaries and pensions, and in compliance with health, prevention and safe distances instructions, and what the World Health Organization approved, and in light of the Central Bank of Egypt’s monitoring and daily monitoring of the movement of transactions with banks.


The Central Committee decided for a temporary period to set a daily limit for deposits and cash withdrawals in bank branches at ten thousand Egyptian pounds for individuals and fifty thousand Egyptian pounds for companies (and from this limit excludes companies withdrawing what they need to pay the dues of their workers), and a daily limit for deposits and cash withdrawals from ATMs at the rate of Five thousand Egyptian pounds, and it is known that the banks sterilize and disinfect these machines periodically.


While issuing subsequent instructions to exclude certain categories and transactions issued by the government, the armed forces and their companies, public and private sector companies, and checks for the purpose of clearing and paying the bank’s entitlements.
