Abu Dhabi ranked first in the Arab world in the Happiness and Comfort Index, as part of the Global Happiness Report 2020, which is issued annually by the United Nations Network for Sustainable Development in cooperation with the Global Gallup Poll.


Abu Dhabi ranked 35th globally in the level of happiness, ahead of a large number of cities around the world, where the cities index included 186 cities, while the UAE maintained its global progress, outperforming a number of advanced countries and economies around the world, ranking 21 globally in The report examines individual happiness in 156 countries.


"The results of the report come to confirm the position of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi globally and the confidence of the local community in it, based on the endeavors and efforts made by the leadership and government of the responsible emirate in cooperation with various governmental and private agencies in order to promote happiness," said Mohammed Ali Al-Shurafa, head of the Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development. Society and achieving sustainable development to increase the welfare of individuals and ensure that they have a decent and luxurious life that enhances their confidence in the Emirate and enhances its position among the best global destinations for living, working and leisure.


He stressed the importance of this classification, which constitutes an additional indication and a global testimony to the progress of Abu Dhabi at the regional and global levels and its ability to play a prominent role in raising the level of happiness and prosperity in society, in line with the goals of sustainable development and quality of life included in the global sustainability agenda.


For his part, Undersecretary Rashid Rashid Al-Balushi said that the progress of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi in the first place in the Arab world and the UAE in the 21st in the world, is evidence of the importance of the directions of the UAE derived from the vision of its wise leadership.


He added that the annual report represents an additional tool for governments, companies and civil societies from which to derive the information needed to help their countries enhance the level of individual happiness in them and to search for new and innovative ways to achieve the well-being of individuals and society.
