Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction lost 720 billion won in 2018 and 490 billion won last year in the wake of a sharp drop in overseas power plant orders and nuclear power-related sales.

This year, the amount of corporate bonds to be repaid immediately reaches 1.2 trillion won, and even the money market is frozen, making it difficult to repay and extend maturity.

Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction's corporate governance structure is vertical, so Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction's insolvency can spread to the entire group.

Accordingly, the Industrial Bank and the Export-Import Bank decided to urgently provide KRW 1 trillion to Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction.

An official from the Korea Development Bank explained, “As I was aware of the preferential controversy, there was a reasonable aspect of workout or court management, but funding was inevitable considering the impact on the key industries, unemployment, and local economic impact.”

Instead, it decided to secure all of its affiliates' stocks and real estate, as well as stocks held by 32 large shareholders aged 3 and 4 years.

This support decision is the first case since the government announced that it will include not only small and medium-sized enterprises, but also large enterprises that are targeted for measures to stabilize the livelihood and financial scale of 100 trillion won.
