To cope with the current health crisis, a derogation from the labor code was presented Wednesday in the Council of Ministers. It plans a week until 60h for certain sectors considered "necessary", which worries the unions.

Towards a 60-hour work week? It is in any case a departure from the labor code established by ordinance, presented Wednesday in the Council of Ministers, among other measures to deal with the current crisis linked to the epidemic of coronavirus. CFDT secretary general Laurent Berger therefore split an open letter to the government on Thursday to protest, and the union leaders will all meet Friday morning by phone with Emmanuel Macron at 11 a.m. This change in labor law seems to have weakened the national union ...

For the "sectors necessary for the security of the nation"

Of all the derogation measures, this is in fact the one that has caused the most tension on the side of the unions. This work week which can go up to 60 hours concerns the sectors considered necessary for the security of the nation and for the continuity of economic life: the food industry, transport, energy and distribution mainly. Or 60 hours of work against 48 maximum today.

Hence the government's inquiry, Thursday, by Laurent Berger. Derogations, of course, but they must be defined by a decree specific to each sector concerned, and for the most limited period possible. His message seems to have been received since in a response letter Thursday evening, the Minister of Labor Muriel Pénicaud gave his agreement for each sector concerned by these derogations to be the subject of a decree, taking into account the "nature of the activities to achieve".
