  • On Tuesday, Airbus decided to shut down its production and assembly lines in France and Spain for four days.
  • The aircraft manufacturer's management announces a gradual resumption of these sites on Monday under strict health and safety conditions.
  • Total containment is a demand that is still topical today, carried by certain unions.

On Tuesday, Airbus announced that it would put its French and Spanish production and assembly sites on standby for four days. A decision made "following the implementation of new measures to contain the Covid-19 pandemic", then indicated the direction of the aircraft manufacturer. A measure that echoed the request for containment of the majority union Force Ouvrière.

Thursday, the prefect of Haute-Garonne, Etienne Guyot, announced at a conference on the economic consequences of the epidemic, that the group's activities would restart. An announcement confirmed at 20 minutes by an Airbus spokesperson.

Gradual recovery, strict measures

“Activity should gradually restart on Monday March 23 on all channels. This is provided for under strict hygiene and safety conditions after cleaning of the assembly sites and stations. There will be measures of self-distancing so that people do not find themselves side by side ”, one assures on the side of the direction which did not resort to partial unemployment for this period of four days.

A large part of its employees, not assigned to production, have been teleworking for several days.

The resumption of production activities on Monday is far from being acclaimed by all the aircraft manufacturers' unions. "Our priority is to respect the barrier measures and we do not see how we could do it in confined spaces, such as airplane cells. We do not see the urgency to resume production when the airlines reduce all their flights. And if we have to use masks, should we not rather make them available to healthcare personnel, ”says Patrice Thebault, CGT Airbus central union representative.

The Minister of Health exorted: "It would be necessary that each Frenchman limits his daily contacts to a maximum of 5 people."

A request for total containment which is still topical at Force Ouvrière. But more balanced in a leaflet distributed this Friday. “In Airbus, a stop and fix would be the most suitable health solution, but poses a problem of protection of our vital industrial and financial interests. An early recovery would pose an enormous risk to Airbus with the likely emergence of pockets of infection. A slow resumption in absolute security of our vital activities seems to be a responsible solution, "said the majority union. The latter insists: "responsibility is engaged and no breach of sanitary rules should be tolerated in our offices or workshops".
