Due to the fall in air traffic in Orly and Charles-de-Gaulle, linked to travel restrictions, the manager of the Parisian airports ADP will put 80% of his employees on partial unemployment from Monday, management announced, Thursday.

The plan, which will take effect on Monday, concerns 80% of the 6,295 employees of Aéroports de Paris (ADP) for a period of "6 months", but the group's intention being "to use it as little as possible" in terms of duration, explained Edward Arkwright, the managing director of Groupe ADP after a social and economic committee (CSE).

Traffic down 75% at Paris airports

"We have made an entity-by-entity approach, the whole company is in partial activity except operational continuity and essential functions", these last two categories continuing to carry on their activity normally, he said. In addition, ADP is preparing "a new adjustment plan" for infrastructure with new terminal closings to respond to the "rapid decline" in traffic, he said. On Thursday, traffic at the two Paris airports will be down 75% from a day of normal activity, according to ADP.

Terminal 2 at Orly airport - where low-cost airlines easyJet, Air Europa and Pegasus Airlines operated - has been closed since Wednesday. Other closings are to follow on Monday at Roissy-Charles de Gaulle as part of a first series of measures to reduce operating costs. According to the management, four trade union organizations voted against, FO, the CGT, Unsa and the CFDT, and the CFE-CGC, the company's first union, abstained. Airports are very much affected by traffic restrictions and border closings while very many airlines around the world have drastically reduced their traffic.
