It is one of the largest industrial employers in France with 3,300 direct employees and 5,000 subcontracted employees. In Saint-Nazaire, the Chantiers de l'Atlantique, specialized in the construction of ocean liners, obviously decided to adapt the activity to the coronavirus health crisis. Restrictive preventive measures have been put in place for catering, shuttles or welcoming visitors, explains management. The schedules have also been modified in order to reduce the staff present at the same time on a set or in the workshop. Telework is also "organized as much as possible for compatible positions". "We act to limit the spread while allowing the company to maintain its activity," summarizes management.

The CGT union does not read the same situation. For him, these measures are insufficient and likely to promote the spread of the virus. He demands outright cessation of production.

"The delay is unacceptable"

"Is it really" essential to the life of the country "to continue to gather with 5,000 people on the site, to produce liners which are socially of no urgency? Our health, that of our families, of our loved ones, is at stake so that profits continue to come in! "Is indignant at the CGT. She considers that, whatever happens, "the delay taken by the management on the dangerousness of the situation is unacceptable".

“Given our important workload, how would we pay the employees if we stopped production? We have orders and commitments to honor, ”replies the management, which declares that it is“ attentive to government directives and to their development ”.

The Chantiers de l'Atlantique order book is filled for about ten years.
