Coronavirus: Iran hires military to limit displacement

The coronavirus continues to progress in Iran with 514 people killed and 11,364 confirmed cases of infection. Authorities called on the armed forces to intervene to better control the movement of people in cities and across the country.

According to the chief of the general staff of the armed forces, the operation to limit the presence of people on the streets, shops and on the country's roads will begin in the coming hours.

This decision was taken by the authorities to control the spread of the coronavirus across the countries, in particular with the approach of the Iranian New Year holidays which start on March 20 and will last two weeks.

Each year, tens of millions of people take the vacation route. This can speed up the spread of the coronavirus. No details have been given yet on the measures that will be taken.

Entry and exit of certain cities or regions already controlled

The entry and exit of certain cities and regions, centers of the virus, are already controlled. Iran is the most affected country after China and Italy.

General Mohammad Hossein Baqeri also announced that all Iranians will be checked by phone or via social networks to identify those suspected of being sick.

These drastic measures were announced after the supreme guide, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, ordered the armed forces to engage in the fight against the new coronavirus. MPs and some provincial officials have said in recent days that the number of people infected is higher than the figures announced.
