• Q&A. What happens if my flight is canceled by the coronavirus or I am afraid to travel?

The coronavirus is causing a massive wave of flight cancellations that targeted the most affected areas. Iberia, Ryanair, British Airway, Delta ... More than fifty airlines have canceled routes and are reorganizing their fleets. Some of them, such as Ryanair and Iberia, report on their respective websites to users who had tickets purchased from the steps to follow to proceed with the change.

Consumer organizations remember that the coronavirus is "a cause of force majeure" and therefore, the passenger has the right to be reimbursed for the money on his ticket, trip where he travels, but has no right to be restrained, since this Outbreak is something foreign to the airline.

On its website, Iberia instructs users to know how to change their tickets. Remember that it is "a situation outside Iberia." Passengers who flew until March 15 to Italy or from Italy on flights operated by Iberia, Iberia Express and Iberia Regional Air Nostrum and who had purchased their tickets on these websites have the possibility to book another date or route to fly between 26 February and March 31, 2020.

You can also change the flight date from April 14 to June 15. If passengers bought your ticket at a travel agency, you must go to it to modify your reservation.

The same applies to flights to Japan, on flights operated by Iberia, British Airways, American Airlines or Finnair and for which you have purchased your ticket until February 26, 2020. It is not valid for flights from April 3 to 13 (both inclusive) or from April 30 to May 2 (both inclusive).

From Ryanair they remember that the company "has been forced to cancel up to 25% of all short-haul flights to / from Italy for a period of three weeks, from March 17 to April 8, due to the Covid19 virus."

They ensure that all affected customers "have been notified by email and SMS and are given the option to request a refund, change the date or route of the trip."
