The European aeronautical manufacturer Airbus will undertake an adjustment of 2,362 people in its Defense and Space division, of which 630 correspond to Spain.

Specifically, the company informed on Wednesday that it expects the reduction of 2,362 posts until the end of 2021, of which 829 correspond to Germany; 357 to the United Kingdom; 630 to Spain; 404 to France and 142 to other countries .

The impact will be greater in the 400M military aircraft program that is assembled in Seville , for which Airbus has provisioned 1.2 billion after a downward revision of its forecasts for future export deliveries, and in that of 'space', due to increased competition

This Wednesday, the extraordinary committee of the Airbus Defense and Space division met, where the company has detailed to the European unions its restructuring plan for this business area. Trade union sources have advanced to Europa Press that this Thursday the company plans to meet in Madrid with the representation unions in the sector to specify the scope of the adjustment in Spain and its breakdown.

The decision comes after three years in which the orders have not been adjusted to the forecast - they have manufactured more devices than those sold. In addition, the entry of new competitors in the space area or the situation of Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, in which Airbus concentrates some manufacturing work and has been hampered by the grounding of the model after two fatal accidents have also influenced in the decision.

A few years ago, the company had to make adjustments, although on that occasion they had a flexibility - temporary employment, early retirement, reassignment ... - which is currently more complex.

The CEO of Airbus, Guillaume Faury , announced during the presentation of the results the restructuring of its Defense and Space division, in which 70% of its 13,000 employees work in Spain, with the aim of "being more competitive and growing in the future".

The company recorded losses of 1,362 million in 2019, weighed down by sanctions to avoid investigations of corruption and bribery and the provision of 1,200 million for the A400M military transport aircraft that is assembled in Seville, following a downward revision of its forecasts of future export deliveries.

MOBILIZATIONS IN SPAIN

Unions with representation in the sector such as UGT, CCOO and CCP have announced mobilizations and even UGT has assured that it is preparing a mobilization calendar that will include demonstrations before the Andalusian Government and the Ministry of Labor and will end with a 24-hour strike in the aerospace sector.

For this Friday, the UGT delegate on the Airbus Tablada company committee and state secretary of the aeronautical sector in the UGT Industries Federation (FICA), Juan Antonio Vázquez, has informed that all Airbus work centers will host a concentration and stoppages in protest at the restructuring announced by the aerospace company.
