• Arrest: Former Pemex director Emilio Lozoya is detained in a luxurious urbanization on the Costa del Sol

The judge of the National Hearing Ismael Moreno has decreed this Thursday provisional prison for the former director of the state-owned Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex) Emilio Lozoya, arrested in Malaga and claimed by Mexico for a fraud of 280 million dollars.

According to legal sources after Moreno took a statement to Lozoya by videoconference, the judge has sent him to prison for risk of escape , having no roots in Spain, and given the seriousness of the penalty that can be imposed, which arrives at 15 years in prison.

Lozoya, who weighed an international search and seizure order for his alleged involvement in the bribe plot of the Brazilian construction company Odebrecht, was director of Pemex between 2012 and 2016, with the Government of Enrique Peña Nieto, and was in search and capture since May 2019.

The Attorney General of Mexico estimates the total amount of money defrauded at 280 million dollars and accuses him of having received bribes from the Brazilian firm Odebrecht, as well as participating in the irregular sale of a fertilizer plant.

Emiloi Lozoya was detected a few days ago in an urbanization on the Costa del Sol that is considered the most exclusive in Europe. His arrest came on Wednesday.
