• Villarejo.FG stands out from BBVA after its judicial stab: "I take my way"

The president of BBVA, Carlos Torres, renews the board of directors of the second bank in the country with the relief of three veteran advisors who were appointed by their predecessor, Francisco González.

BBVA has announced in an official statement the departure of José Manuel González-Páramo , who was signed by Francisco González in 2013 as executive director to deal with the Regulatory Department after having been an advisor to the European Central Bank (ECB) for eight years. Tomás Alfaro and Carlos Loring also leave with him, who arrived at the council by González three years ago.

The mandate expired and Torres had to decide whether to extend or relieve them and has chosen the latter, although the bank clarifies that González-Páramo will continue to be linked to the entity as an external advisor. He has also decided to renew in his positions Lourdes Máiz Carro and Susana Rodríguez Vidarte as independent and external directors, respectively, also appointed in the González stage.

To replace outgoing advisors, Torres and his council propose to the Spanish economist Ana Revenga , who has developed most of her career at the World Bank. Also to the Portuguese Raúl Galamba , trained in the consulting firm McKinsey as Torres, and to the Mexican Carlos Salazar , country in which the bank develops a good part of its worldwide business.

BBVA points out that in the new board of directors it reaches a third of female councilors, as it had been set for 2020. The weight of members with foreign nationality also rises to 40% and the independent members will rise to two thirds.

The renovation, which coincides with the judicial outbreak of the José Manuel Villarejo hiring scandal, is for now a pending endorsement proposal at the shareholders meeting next month and provided that the European Central Bank authorizes the new profiles.
