Spain created 402,300 jobs in 2019, the lowest figure since the economic recovery in 2014 , according to data from the Active Population Survey (EPA) for the fourth quarter of 2019 published on Tuesday by the National Statistics Institute (INE) .

However, despite the fact that employment has been created at a slower pace, the total number of employed persons in Spain is 19.96 million, the highest level in eleven years. According to the EPA, unemployment fell by 112,400 people in the last twelve months, 3.4% less than in 2018 and the seventh consecutive annual decline.

It is the smallest annual decline since 2012, but that reduces the unemployment rate to 13.78%, the lowest since 2008 , with a total number of unemployed amounting to 3,191,900 people.

On the other hand, employment grew in 402,300 people in 2019, 2.06% compared to 2018, achieving its sixth consecutive annual increase. Thus, 2019 closed with 19,966,900 occupied, the highest figure since the last eleven years.

For quarters, in the fourth of last year unemployment fell by 22,500 people (-0.7%) and employment increased by 92,600 people (+ 0.47%). With the decline in unemployment achieved in 2019, seven consecutive years of declines are chained after six years of increases.

In 2019, Spain created employment for the sixth consecutive year after six years destroying it. Thus, last year 402,300 jobs were generated, with an annual growth rate of 2.06%, lower than a year earlier.
