FlexFuel Energy Development (FFED) is racing at full speed on the highway to success. The company based in Sophia-Antipolis, near Nice, has just been selected by the government in the French Tech 120. Aimed at making France the first European digital ecosystem, this program supports 120 of the most promising start-ups of the country, in order to make them international leaders.

“We weren't expecting it particularly, even if we have an unusual increase in turnover: 4 million euros in 2017, 10 million in 2018, almost 20 million in 2019 and 30 million we hope in 2020 “, Reacts Sébastien Le Pollès, president of FFED.

Successfully keep your vehicle

To achieve these flattering results, the structure relies on two technologies, in a context marked by the crisis in purchasing power, ecological awareness and the tightening of technical control since July 1, 2019.

“Contrary to popular belief, not everyone can afford an electric car or a new car. If we can help people save, that's already good, ”comments the entrepreneur.

Ecological solutions

Certified by the Ministry of Transport and the Veritas offices, the Hy-Calamine thoroughly cleans the engines of the calamine, by injecting hydrogen into the air intake. An alternative to chemical additives which makes it possible to reduce fuel consumption compared to that of a dirty engine (around 200 euros in savings per year) and to halve the emission of pollutants.

Other advantages: expensive parts (EGR valves, turbos, injectors, etc.) are preserved and the engine regains its torque. Over 600,000 descaling operations are carried out each year.

Another flagship product: the conversion unit for petrol vehicles to Superethanol E-85, a biofuel that is on the rise in France. "We combine ecology (70% of CO2 and 90% of emission of fine particles less) and savings (about 50% less on full)", boasts Sébastien Le Pollès.

Since 2009, more than 43,000 boxes have been installed.

What has been new in technical control since 2018?

Focus on hydrogen

When asked to Sébastien Le Pollès, CEO of FFED, if his company is working on a box to convert diesel vehicles to biofuel, the answer is “No! We are already thinking about the fuel of tomorrow and, for us, it is hydrogen. We have already created a subsidiary for this part called Gen-Hy. In practice, the vehicle produces electricity by combining the hydrogen contained in the tank and the oxygen in the air.
