Abu Dhabi - Emirates Today

The Federal Tax Authority has launched a new electronic platform that provides more facilities for citizens to recover the value-added tax paid by them on the construction of their new homes.

The Authority stated that, within the framework of the new facilities, the number of documents required to submit the application for redemption has been reduced to four basic documents required for redemption via the new platform, noting that for example, from the documents that are currently not required, the contractor and consultant approval and passport are simplified, and an application form has been simplified Recovery and attachments.

It stated that the documents currently required through the new platform include a copy of the applicant’s registration summary, the building permit included with a certificate of completion issued by the municipality, a copy of the applicant’s Emirati ID, and a document explaining the building’s occupancy date (for example: the electricity and water service delivery bill).

She explained that the new platform is characterized by the ease of procedures through clear steps through the Authority's website, so the request for recovery is submitted with the supporting documents, and the citizen who qualifies for recovery receives an e-mail requesting him to submit the necessary documents to complete the Authority's handling of the request for recovery, and after checking the documents the citizen is notified of his entitlement and confirmation If the refund amount matches the tax invoices provided, then the refund amount is transferred to the applicant’s bank account after being informed of the final approval.

The authority confirmed in a press statement today that the new platform was equipped according to the latest standards that ensure the efficiency and speed of performance, and the ease and clarity of procedures, noting that the authority held during the stage of implementing the development of the platform consultative meetings with citizens concerned to recover value-added tax from building their new homes and tax agents, During which their opinions on the development process were explored from their experience of dealing with the previous recovery mechanism, and their comments were taken into consideration in preparing the new platform.

She explained that one of the most prominent features of the development and facilities offered by the new platform is that it allows submitting requests for VAT refunds for the new residence directly through the "electronic tax services" platform on the authority's website instead of submitting requests via e-mail messages, thus reducing the time and speeding up the recovery procedures.

The Director General of the Federal Tax Authority, Khaled Ali Al-Bustani, said: "The launch of the electronic platform for recovering value-added tax from building newly constructed citizens' homes came within the framework of the Authority's strategy to provide the best services in light of the continuous review of the executive procedures of tax legislation to achieve the best levels of efficiency in performance and facilitate Actions, in the interest of citizens, residents, and visitors.
