USJ Mario Unveils New Technology Before Opening Theme Area January 15 0:05

Osaka's theme park, Universal Studios Japan, has unveiled new technologies that will be introduced before an attraction with the theme of the popular character "Mario" opens in summer.

At Universal Studios Japan in Konohana-ku, Osaka, Nintendo will open a new area such as attractions and restaurants with the theme of the popular Mario character, Mario.

Today, Mario also appeared on the stage together with President Bonnie of the operating company, and outlined the attractions that are approaching opening.

The new areas will be introducing new technologies using dedicated wristbands and smartphone apps.

In the Nintendo Mario series game, the hero is set to collect coins, but attraction is designed so that visitors wearing a wristband can collect coins on a smartphone like a game while walking in the area .

The investment in this new area is over 60 billion yen, exceeding the 45 billion yen invested in the “Harry Potter” area that opened in 2014, and is the largest in this theme park.

"I'm looking forward to seeing a wonderful collaboration with Nintendo," said Bonnie, president of the operating company.

Experience Mario's world view in the new area

Mario is a popular character of the game software "Super Mario Brothers" released by Nintendo in 1985, 35 years ago.

With the popularity of game consoles such as NES and Super Nintendo, the popularity has increased around the world, and as of the end of September last year, a total of 361 million units had been sold worldwide.

This summer, a new area that will open at Universal Studios Japan will recreate the castle and clay pipes that appeared in the game, bringing together hands-on games, shops and restaurants.

Featured interactive games will introduce new technologies using dedicated wristbands and smartphone apps.

Visitors wearing a wristband are designed to collect coins on a smartphone like a game while walking in the area, and you can get coins by jumping and hitting blocks.

You can also compete with other participants for the number of coins collected.

Universal Studios Japan believes that opening this area, where you can experience Mario's worldview, will be able to attract customers from all ages, both domestic and international.
