New blockage on Syria at the United Nations Security Council in New York. Russia and China have blocked a one-year extension of humanitarian aid to 4 million Syrians.

It is the 14th veto of Russia to block a UN resolution on Syria, since the conflict started in this country in 2011. This time, Russia was also supported by the Chinese veto this Friday December 20 in New York to say no to the extension of cross-border humanitarian aid. That is to say coming from Turkey or Iraq to the Syrian population.

Russia - which supports Bashar al-Assad - believes that the Damascus regime can now ensure the distribution of humanitarian aid itself over most of its territory since it is gradually regaining control.

France criticizing Russia

" There is no alternative " to this cross-border aid , said France's deputy ambassador to the UN, Anne Gueguen, describing Russia's choice as " irresponsible " and " sinister ".

The current system expires on January 10, which may allow the UN Security Council to agree before that date. It will be difficult since Russia presented its own text which did not have enough votes among the 15 members of the Security Council.
