NEC has entered the “Local 5G” business, which uses the next generation communication standard 5G in a limited area, and will provide services to companies and local governments.

“Local 5G” uses a 5G communication network in a limited area such as a building, and radio waves are scheduled to be allocated to companies, local governments, universities, etc.

In this regard, NEC has announced that it will enter into a business that provides companies and local governments with everything from communication network maintenance to specific utilization methods.

Specifically, taking advantage of the features of high speed and large capacity, it automatically moves multiple construction machines at the construction site, and connects the production facilities of the factory with “local 5G” to automate the operation status with AI = artificial intelligence. It means that we are considering a service that analyzes and proposes more efficient production methods.

The company will start explaining to companies and local governments on the 17th, and aims to have more than 100 companies and organizations as customers by FY2023.

In Japan, Fujitsu, Toshiba, and others have announced a policy to enter businesses related to "Local 5G". In addition, China's leading communications giant Huawei, which has high technology in 5G, is considering providing services and products.

At the press conference, NEC's senior executive Nozomu Watanabe said, "We want to contribute to solving problems such as labor shortages that are becoming more serious in Japan by providing services that increase productivity."
