Although the truce concluded at the end of August under the auspices of Russia is theoretically still in force in Idleb, on the ground, the Syrian army and its Russian ally have resumed their offensive .

Fighting remains concentrated, for the time being, in the south-east of this province, largely controlled by jihadist groups. The Syrian army continues its attacks on two axes, under a powerful barrage of artillery and with the support of aviation.

Slight advance of the Syrian army

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that Russian and Syrian planes conducted more than 70 raids Thursday, as hundreds of shells and rockets hit the front lines. Sources close to Damascus report a slight increase in the Syrian army despite strong resistance from jihadist groups and rebels, allied with Turkey.

These groups shelled areas controlled by government troops in the provinces of Aleppo and Hama, far from the front lines. The truce in Idleb has begun to waver since the beginning of the Turkish army offensive in northern and northeastern Syria on 9 October.
