The US said it slowed down the implementation of Nord Stream 2

The US has slowed the implementation of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline project, but it has not been stopped. This was announced by Deputy Secretary of State for Political Affairs David Hale, speaking at a hearing on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee of the US Congress.

“We use our diplomatic means to achieve our goal and stop this project,” he said.

Senator Ted Cruz asked the diplomat a clarifying question about whether the United States has achieved success in this matter.

“At this stage, we slowed him down, but he is not stopped,” Hale replied.

Senator Jim Rish previously stated that the US Congress is going to include sanctions against the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline in the defense budget for 2020.

As noted by US Under Secretary of Energy Mark Menezes, Nord Stream 2 and Turkish Stream will provide Russia with “more leverage in Europe.”

In April, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, speaking in Congress, said that Washington was not successful in trying to convince European countries not to participate in the construction of Nord Stream 2.
