The Secretary General of the OECD, Ángel Gurría, is confident that the announcement of the imposition of US tariffs on France for its rate of technology will serve as a "reminder" to accelerate the creation of a tax on digital giants in the body.

"I hope it is a kind of reminder and that it helps us to hurry more . In the OECD we are already hurrying a lot, but that the rest of the countries accelerate, because if we have a scheme and a global package this will avoid tensions like this" , Gurría told Spanish media at the agency's headquarters in Paris.

Gurría explained that the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) works "intensely" in the process of imposing a fee on the income of digital services of large technology, such as Google or Facebook.

"We hope that in January we have the elements, that in June we can have a greater clarity regarding the direction, that in the last months of the year we can assemble the package and that we will be in the future in the implementation of the measures," he added .

He also recalled that the French president, Emmanuel Macron, and the American, Donald Trump, spoke of this imposition at a meeting in August during the G7 summit in Biarritz (southwest of France), where they achieved an understanding on the issue.

The US government announced Monday that it will impose tariffs worth $ 2.4 billion of up to 100% of the value of certain French products in response to the imposition of a Macron Executive fee on the income of large technology companies.

The French Minister of Economy and Finance, Bruno Le Maire, has described the US decision as "unacceptable" and has said, after speaking with the European Commission, that the European Union will respond with "forcefulness" to any sanction France or any of its members .
