As of June 30, the activity bonus benefited 4.17 million households, up 1.44 million over one year. This service cost 2.36 billion euros, an increase of 1.04 billion euros compared to the same period in 2018.

The activity bonus, helping modest workers whose access conditions were widened in response to "yellow vests", benefited on June 30 to 4.17 million households, or 1.44 million more than the year last, said Monday the National Fund for Family Allowances (CNAF).

An increase of 1.04 billion over one year

At the end of the second quarter, the family allowance funds (Caf) paid € 2.36 billion for this benefit, an increase of € 1.04 billion compared to the same period in 2018, according to a quarterly business cycle letter. The average amount of the activity bonus, which varies according to the situation, is 185 euros per month. "Since its implementation (early 2016), the service knows a continuous growth, with a slight acceleration from the last quarter of 2018, then very important from January 2019", explains the Cnaf.

As part of the "emergency economic and social" measures voted at the end of 2018 to respond to the anger of the "yellow vests", this allowance was revalued by 90 euros (maximum) and its conditions of allocation were broadened. In the first quarter of 2019, the number of beneficiaries jumped by 52% compared to the first quarter of 2018. At the end of June 2019, the number of beneficiaries of the RSA, for its part, fell slightly (-0.2%) compared to June 2018, to 1.87 million people.

In the second quarter, the Cafs paid 2.75 billion euros for this benefit reserved for people without resources, for an average monthly amount of 496 euros. The future universal income of activity (RUA), wanted by Emmanuel Macron, must replace by 2023 to several social benefits, including the RSA and the bonus of activity.
