Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has developed an integrated plan to meet the requirements of the Emirate of Dubai to host Expo 2020, to ensure a safe and easy movement for visitors to the Expo and its activities starting in October next year.

The plan includes the development of the road network and intersections leading to the exhibition site, as well as the implementation of the "path 2020" to extend the stations of the red line of the Dubai Metro to reach the site of the event and the surrounding residential areas, in addition to the development of mass transit systems of buses and taxis, to serve the activities and events related to the exhibition Global, which will permeate various regions of the Principality.

The road network

The most recent projects implemented by RTA, as part of the plan, were announced at the opening of the RTA in early September, the third and fourth phases of the Expo 2020 road network development project, which included the development of two interchanges for Sheikh Zayed Bin Hamdan Street. Nahyan, along with Expo Street and Al Yalais Street, in addition to the development of two bridges on Sheikh Zayed Bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street in Dubai Investment Park area and the expansion of Sheikh Zayed Bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street from two lanes in each direction to Five tracks in each direction. The total length of the bridges in the two phases was five kilometers, while the length of roads reached 17 kilometers, at a cost of 1.3 billion dirhams.

The development of the road network leading to Expo has been divided into six phases, to complete all work within the specified time frame, well in advance of the opening of Expo.

Traffic

The third phase of the project included the provision of free traffic between Expo Street and Sheikh Zayed Bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street, where the conversion of the light-controlled rotor to a bridge intersection increases the capacity from 2000 vehicles per hour to 4500 vehicles per hour to the east and west. The third phase also provides direct traffic to the Expo Exhibition on the West Road on Expo Road, and additional traffic capacity from Expo to Expo Street and Sheikh Zayed Bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street, Contributes to reduced flight time and smooth traffic.

The fourth phase of the project included providing free traffic between Sheikh Zayed Bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street and Al Yalais Street, where the implementation of the project transformed the light-controlled roundabout into a bridge intersection, increasing the capacity of the street from 3000 vehicles. Per hour to 10,000 vehicles per hour east and west on Al Yalais Street, it provides better traffic to Expo and Jafza to Emirates Road via Al Yalais Street.

It is noteworthy that the first and second phases include the transformation of the roundabout at the intersection of Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road with Expo Street into a bridge intersection, providing free traffic in each direction, and the implementation of two bridges intersections that form direct entrances and exits for Expo 2020 from Sheikh Mohammed Bin Street Zayed, to provide free movement to enter and exit the exhibition site.

The total length of roads in both phases is 43 km, while the fifth and sixth phases include the development of Expo Street and the development of the intersection of Emirates Road with Expo Street. The total length of bridges in both phases is 4 km and the roads are 11 km.

5 Routes to Al Maktoum Airport

The total length of the bridges implemented in the third phase of the Expo Roads project was approximately three kilometers, while the length of the roads is 6.5 kilometers, including the provision of five routes linking the Expo intersection with Sheikh Zayed Bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street to reach Al Maktoum Airport. International.

The phase included the lifting of Sheikh Zayed Bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Road and the service roads with five bridges, and the provision of four detour and connections to ensure the smooth flow of traffic from Expo Road north to Sheikh Zayed Bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street towards Dubai Al Ain Street.

These links will also provide access to Expo 2020 from Expo Street in the south towards Expo, exit from Sheikh Zayed Bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street to Expo Street in the north, as well as providing exit traffic through the detour A bridge along Sheikh Zayed Bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street towards the intersection. The project also includes the development of Sheikh Zayed Bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Road towards Al Maktoum International Airport from a new road with a capacity of five lanes in each direction, along two kilometers from the Expo intersection with Sheikh Zayed Bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street towards Al Maktoum International Airport.
