Israel released Wednesday two Jordanian nationals detained since August and September. Their detention was at the heart of diplomatic tensions between the two countries. The Jordanian ambassador to Israel was recalled to Amman. Their release puts an end to this crisis, but Israeli-Jordanian relations remain complicated 25 years after the signing of a peace treaty.

It was while making the V of victory with his fingers that Heba al-Labadi returned to Jordan on Wednesday, crossing the Jordan Bridge where she was arrested last August. This young woman, a Jordanian woman of Palestinian origin, had been on a hunger strike for 42 days to protest her detention. Abdelrahmane Mehri, arrested at the same border crossing in September and suffering from cancer, was also released during the day.

According to the Jordanian Foreign Minister, the fate of these two nationals was followed at the highest summit of the state. King Abdullah himself gave the instructions. And last week, as a gesture of protest, Amman had recalled his ambassador to Israel for consultations. The diplomat is expected to return to Tel Aviv in the coming days.

The relationship between Jordan and Israel is " a pillar of regional stability, " Benyamin Netanyahu said on Monday. In terms of security, but also for access to water in a desert region, bilateral relations are important to both countries. But they remain sensitive, Jordan now claims the return of two parcels rented by Israel and the 25 years of the peace treaty in late October, were marked by no celebration or one side or the other.
