Iranian authorities on Saturday (November 2nd) unveiled new anti-American murals on the walls of the former US embassy in Tehran, two days before the 40th anniversary of the seizure of the diplomatic building that broke the relations between the two countries.

The new murals were made by bassidjis, Islamist volunteers who are auxiliaries to the Revolutionary Guards, the elite Iranian army. They were painted on the walls of the former US embassy and presented by General Hossein Salami, the leader of the Revolutionary Guards.

They present an arrogant and war-thirsty America. In his speech, General Salami claimed that the United States had killed 8.5 million people since the Second World War in various wars around the world.

One of the paintings represents the American flag, but instead of the stars, there are skulls and on the red lines, there are rows of submachine soldiers in the hand. Another represents the totally destroyed Statue of Liberty.

Ceremonies are to be held on Monday, November 4th across the country on the occasion of the fortieth anniversary of the taking of the embassy by Islamic students who have kept American diplomats for 444 days.

Relations between Tehran and Washington are at their worst after the exit of the United States from the nuclear agreement in May 2018 and the return of sanctions that hit hard the Iranian economy .
