"Kuraray" to settle settlement of 10 billion yen in a fire accident at a rice factory October 25, 5:29

A major chemical manufacturer, Kuraray, was asked for compensation for damages by workers due to a fire accident that occurred in an American factory last year. Announced that it has agreed to pay a settlement of 100 million yen. Kuraray will post a total of 14 billion yen in losses related to the 13 plaintiffs, including the settlement.

“Kuraray” was asked to compensate for damages by approximately 160 people, including workers from outsourcing contractors, who were injured in a fire accident that occurred at a resin production plant in Texas, USA in May last year. The procedure was proceeding in court.

Kuraray announced that it had agreed to pay a settlement of approximately 10 billion yen with some workers by the 24th in order to expedite the settlement of the case.

Kuraray will record a total of 14.0 billion yen related to the 13 plaintiffs that can be estimated at this time, including the settlement, and will record an extraordinary loss in the financial statements from January to September.

However, the impact on the full-year financial results for the fiscal year ending December is still under scrutiny.
