Assad as savior

In just over a week, the Turkish offensive in northern Syria has profoundly changed the situation in this area for the benefit of the Damascus regime and its Russian ally who have regained control of territories in northern Syria.

In recent days, American soldiers have packed up and left this region. Deprived of this Western support, the Kurdish forces of Syria appealed to the regime of Bashar El Assad who did not even need to fight to resettle in areas that had escaped him during the years of conflict.

Winning operation for the Syrian power so even if many questions arise about his future relationship with the Syrian Kurds. Which do not give up their project of autonomy.

Erdogan in Russia ...

The other big winner is Russia, which continues to forge its status as a key player in the Middle East and a more consistent partner than the United States.

The chance of timing has also seen Vladimir Putin make this week a visit as rare as noticed in Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.

The five-day truce in the Turkish offensive has expired on Tuesday, October 22 and that day it is precisely in Russia (Sochi) that will go Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
