The sale of homes collapsed by 21.1% in August in relation to the same month of 2018, adding up to 35,371 operations, its lowest figure in a month of August since 2015, as reported on Thursday by the National Institute of Statistics (INE ).

With this decline, the sale of homes returns at negative interannual rates after almost 4% in July .

The decline recorded in August was the result of the drop in operations on used homes by 21.1%, to 28,945 transactions, and the 21% decrease in the sale of new homes, to 6,426 operations.

91.4% of the homes transmitted by sale in the eighth month of the year were free homes and 8.6% were protected.

The sale of free homes fell 20% in August in an interannual rate, to 32,329 transactions, while operations on protected homes fell 31.5%, with 3,042 transactions.

In monthly terms (August over July), the purchase and sale of homes sank 26.1%, the biggest decline in this month in the last five years.

ANDALUCÍA, AT THE HEAD OF THE PURCHASES

Last August, the largest number of home sales and purchases per 100,000 inhabitants occurred in Comunidad Valenciana ( 136), Andalucía (110) and Baleares (109).

Andalusia was the region that carried out the most housing operations in the eighth month of the year, with 7,278 sales, followed by Catalonia (5,921), Comunidad Valenciana (5,365) and Madrid (4,899).

All communities reduced their home sales in August. The greatest interannual setbacks were recorded in Extremadura (-42.7%), the Canary Islands (-41.2%) and Navarra (-39.4%).

THE TOTAL OF TRANSMITTED FARMS FALLS 5.1%

Adding the rural and urban farms (housing and other urban buildings), the farms transmitted last August reached 150,464, 5.1% lower than that registered in the same month of 2018.

By purchase and sale, 15.7% fewer farms were transmitted than in August 2018, while donation transfers rose 10.5% and those transmitted by exchange swapped 12.7%. In turn, inheritance transactions decreased 3.6%.

According to the INE data, the number of purchases of rustic farms decreased by 3.4% in August, to a total of 9,494 operations, while the sales of urban farms, which include housing, decreased by 17.2%, Up to 63,516 operations.

In August, the largest number of farms transmitted per 100,000 inhabitants occurred in La Rioja ( 727), Castilla y León (550) and Aragón (538).

The largest interannual increases in the number of farms transmitted in August were recorded in La Rioja (+ 9.9%), Cantabria (+ 9.7%) and Galicia (+ 4.6%), while the largest decreases corresponded to Navarra (-30.3%), Canary Islands (-18.8%) and Extremadura (-17.8%).
